How I Roll at Potbelly

A few months ago, I gave a less than favorable review to Potbelly’s BIG sandwiches.  I always wanted to like Potbelly, but their sandwiches were way too small for a big eater like myself.  When I heard they were making larger versions of their normal sandwiches, I decided to put the name to the test.  What I got was a whole bunch of bread and what seemed like the normal amount of meat.  I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a sandwich that actually lived up to the name.  If you’re going to advertise a big sandwich put the name in all caps, you need to deliver me one hell of a sandwich.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you what a BIG sandwich should look like.  A BIG Wreck with double meat(salami, roast beef, turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese), mayo, oil, and seasoning.  A delicious sandwich that I guarantee will provide your recommended daily calorie intake in one meal.  The lady went a little crazy on the mayo, but I wasn’t complaining.  This sandwich was delicious.  I might go back once per month just to ensure that I’m not malnourished.

I should also point out that this sandwich is cut in half, and the following pictures are only one of the halves.

Now I want a sandwich. Potbelly about 20miles from me….might get Firehouse instead which is 1mile away. I share the same view on the so called “big” sandwiches at Potbelly. This creation however, is impressive.

It was a whoooooooole lot of mayo, but it actually wasn’t as much as it looks in the picture. Most of the mayo got squeezed outside of the sandwich so I guess it looks a little crazy.

I really dislike mixing my “Italian” type meats with roast beef and turkey. They seem to go together poorly in my taste. Give me something with salami, pepperoni, ham, anything other than RB and turkey and I am happy.

I still would eat that sandwich, though.

I noticed that as well. The Wreck is a bit of an odd combination of meats. Delicious, yes, but I found the addition of turkey to be a little weird.

I went to Potbelly once, and was disappointed at how they viewed BIG. BIG must have been the new little.

well, your previous sandwich may have seemed small because you didn’t put any veggies on it!

what is the point of getting a potbelly-type sandwich where they can add anything from lettuce/tomato/onion to roasted red peppers or artichoke hearts or coleslaw to add taste and texture and then skip all of that? just smushing soft lunch-meats and melted cheese into some bread with mayo is so boring in the texture department, and veggies definitely bulk up the sandwich too….

Agreed, but I never liked lettuce on my sandwiches much. I should have gone with peppers this time, but the artichokes sound like a delicious idea.

The peppers are what make the sandwich at Potbelly. Delicious and legitimately spicy.

I feel bad for you folks in the Midwest, where chains are the standards for sandwiches and pizza. Where I live in SE PA, you can stand at any intersection and throw a rock in any direction and hit a great local pizza or sandwich shop, where the recipes are created in the back, not in some corporate industrial kitchen by food scientists and chemists.
