Redemption is my Name

On May 25th, 2009 I attempted to eat Bella Italia’s 30″ meat lovers pizza and failed miserably.  Looking back on the attempt,  we did fairly well, but our preparation was lacking.  We decided to give it a try the day of, and our stomachs weren’t even completely empty.  You may remember the end result looking something like this..

Well, I can’t let this embarrassment stand.  I need to go back and complete their current challenge of a 30″ pizza with a 30 minute time limit.  The beautiful part of this is I can bring two partners with me.  I would like to bring two Epic Portions readers with me to attempt this challenge. We will arrange a date and time when we can go in, and you will be a part of the glory, a post on Epic Portions, and a write-up on AnnArbor.com.  I will cover the entry fee, but it’s free if when we finish the pizza.

Comment here, e-mail me, talk to me in person, or however else you want to get ahold of me.  If I don’t know you, I need some proof that you’re a serious eater.  I can hold my own but I doubt I can finish the entire thing.  Get at me before Sunday and I will announce the team on Monday.

The wibia team would be there in a second if it wasn’t a 3-4 hour drive. I plan on making it to Ann Arbor this summer, so maybe then.

I have a feeling that you will knock this out if you get the right people with you.

Damn it, John! Wanna cover my plane fare, too? Please? I’d be there in a heartbeat, because that pizza looks gooooooood.

I live in Ferndale and, while I’m not a pro eater by any stretch, on more than one occasion I’ve eaten enough pizza that it’s caused me to mimic the symptoms of a stroke.

I’d gladly play second string.

I’m originally from Brighton, going to school in Detroit, used to work in Ann Arbor. I love to eat. I’ve knocked off a 20 patty Whopper from Burger King in less than 20 minutes, did the Blazin’ Challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings in 2:11, and did 15 at Blimpie without breaking a sweat. I’m planning on going for the record at Blimpie this summer. I’d love to do this with you. If you have any questions, just e-mail me.

So the website says that toppings can be whatever the eaters want for the three-man pizza assault. What sort of toppings are you looking at? I’m up in Lansing and can eat a decent amount, especially if I know in advance. I’d be willing to throw my hat in the ring if you need a body.

I’m no Steven Mason, though. Sounds like he could knock it out himself.

Geez, it’s too bad I’m North of the border and a light weight…160 pounds.

It’s tougher with all that meat, but these 3 guys did it in way under 30, cheese only: http://www.pioneerlocal.com/megabites/1981685,megabites-30s-pizza-factory-011410-s1.article

I need Steven Mason’s e-mail address. I’m trying to set up dates for this. Hopefully he checks this post again…

I noticed at http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Man_V_Food/Special_Features/ci.Man_V_Food_Episode_Guide.custom
Man vs Food might be comming to Ann Arbor to shoot. Maybe you can reach Adam and have him on your redemption team. He should be up for some redemption. I think he lost a simmilar challenge as you. If not him, I know many people looking for teammates.

Hey John, I live in Rochester Hill and would love to travel out to you and dominate that pizza. I am currently a PRO with IFOCE. I’m down to help with any challenge or to just hang out and eat.

Not sure if you made it to Bella Italia yet for the 30″ pizza challenge. If you are a serious eater, it is not very difficult. Two buddies and I finished the pizza in 13 minutes, the current record. Still a lot of fun.
