Your Esteemed Authors

Epic Portions was created for the simple reason that we both love food and we feel that our opinions on the subject are just as valid as anyone elses with a public forum to express them.  We love cooking, eating, exploring new culinary delights and finding new places that inspire us.  We have a wide range of tastes, from fast food to exquisite seven-course meals, and from burgers and brats to beef tongue and chicken livers.  There isn’t much that we won’t try and we try to do our best to share this attitude with our readers.

Epic Portions is maintained on a daily basis by John Moors, out of Ann Arbor, MI, and Todd BenDor, out of Chapel Hill North Carolina.  We grew up together in good ol’ Ypsilanti, MI, but, after Todd moved 1000 miles away to North Carolina, most of our time was spent discussing new restaurants we had discovered and food we had tried.  More recently we’ve called on the help of our friends, including Megan K. from Champaign, IL and Jeremy Rosenberg from Ypsilanti, MI.

Megan K.

Epic Portions is a chronicle of our adventures in the world of eating, drinking, and merriness, from the Motor City, to the New South, and everywhere in between.

Hi John-

Thank you for the nice write-up about The Lark. I’m glad you enjoyed our food and you are right about the lamb, the quality of the meat is very important. Your comment on the salad was insightful as John does have a way of getting people to like a course they would often just skip! You should try coming to one of our wine tastings some day, they are great fun and a terrific value.

All my best

Adrian Lark

Your site has proven to be a valuable resource for me – I just recently moved to Ypsilanti from Germany and at first found it hard to find places where I could get a good meal. The reviews of local eateries have been very informative and helped me find places I could reach (no car here, sob) that were completely worth my time and money. Keep up the good work, I hope to read more about local restaurants. E.g., I’d be interested to hear your opinion on Leone’s Bistro (located on 2789 Washtenaw).
Also, in the ongoing debate of La Fuente vs. Los Amigos, I’d like to vote in favour of Los Amigos, simply because La Fuente is unreachable for a pedestrian and doesn’t have a bus stop.
