Dear Tios, You Suck

Tios’ latest attempt to lure Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor residents into eating their terrible food is an eating competition involving 5 pounds of nachos, called Mount Nacheesmo. I would normally be pretty pumped about an eating competition in my hometown of Ypsilanti, but I am on a strict boycott of anything involving Tios Mexican Cafe.

In true Tios fashion, the nachos closely resemble something you could easily make at home. Check out that guacamole. Look familiar? Maybe a certain guacamole served by Taco Bell? Or something that fixes leaks in your plumbing? Sick. This looks like 4.5 pounds of tortilla chips with nacho topping garnishes. I think I’ll keep my $29.99 and Tios can keep their t-shirts. Boo Tios. Boo.

Mommie’s Soul Food

This little drive through soul food joint called Mommie’s Soul Food just opened up on Washtenaw right by my apartment. The building is an old Hot ‘n’ Now location The funny thing is there’s no drive through speaker. Last time I drove by the operation was set up with some lady standing outside taking your order, running it inside, then having you pull up to the window for your food. Word on the street is they actually have some pretty legit soul food. I’m still trying to build up the courage to give it a try. What do you think? Should I?

China Chef – Ypsilanti, MI

I love me some Chinese take-out. Delicious, cheap, and largely portioned. This is my daily formula when looking for lunch, and China Chef always hooks me up with one of the greatest lunch specials in the world. Your choice of rice(chicken fried, shrimp fried, steamed, ect.), a main item and an egg roll for $4.29. This ends up costing you a little under $2 per pound. I have to admit that eating at a Chinese restaurant with an entirely Spanish speaking kitchen staff is a little odd, but they put out some of the best Chinese take-out I have had.

And if you have what some may call an eating problem like I do, they have great dumplings for only $2.25.

Nothing unique or special. Just a whole lotta good Chinese food for not a lot of cashish. Depending on how poor I am, this can be lunch AND dinner. Gotta cut back somewhere in these harsh economic times. Thankfully, China Chef is there for me.
