  • Kentucky Grilled Chicken

    kentucky-grilled-chicken

    This is really stupid.

Ok now that I got that out of the way, KFC will begin selling grilled chicken today.  You can even stop in and they will give you a free piece on April 27th.

This  rollout is KFC’s most ambitious attempt to win over health-crazed customers as the chain known worldwide for fried chicken tries to boost sales.  Like its predecessor, Kentucky Grilled Chicken has its own secret recipe. The original copy of the recipe, a blend of six herbs and spices, will be kept in an electronic safe at company headquarters.

KFC says each piece of its grilled chicken has 70 to 180 calories and four to nine grams of fat. By contrast, the Original Recipe items have between 110 and 370 calories and 7 to 21 grams of fat, depending on the piece. The grilled chicken contains from 160 to 440 milligrams of sodium per piece, as opposed to 290 to 1,050 milligrams of sodium per piece of Original Recipe chicken.

KFC has launched non-fried chicken before, but each prior initiative flopped. In the early 1990s, it introduced a rotisserie-style chicken that fell by the wayside due to equipment problems and long cooking times. A tender roast product followed but lasted only a couple of years.

It would be tough for me to visit Kentucky FRIED Chicken and order grilled chicken rather than the usual.  I understand the whole “We have to cater to the healthy people” concept, but do people looking for healthy options really flock to KFC?  Does this mean that people will stop at KFC on the way home from the gym for a healthier alternative to fast food?

I think this requires me to go over there and try some out.  I’ll let you know what I think.

  • Happy’s Pizza

A Happy’s Pizza just opened up in Ypsilanti, so naturally I have eaten there a few times in the last week or so. They have a $5 calzone for lunch that is made from their large pizza dough.  Delicious.  While I was eating this monster the other day, I throughoully read over the menu and couldn’t help wondering, “Who orders this shit?”  I’m sure the seafood and ribs would be tasty if I gave them a try, but I just can’t imagine ordering ocean pearch, catfish or ribs for delivery from a pizza place. Now that I think about it, I would like to see what kind of box they bring a whole slab of ribs to you in.

Past that, the combinations they have there are just weird. For instance,

    The Giant Family Special
    1 Large Pizza
    1 Whole Slab or Ribs
    6 pc. Chicken
    1 Large Order of Fries
    Cole Slaw

Now I’m not one to complain about recieving a large amount and variety of food, but that’s just ridiculous.  Who eats ribs with pizza and then finishes it off with chicken???

    Pizza & Shrimp Combo

    1 Large Pizza
    1 Lb. of Shrimp

Shrimp and pizza do not go together.  I don’t care what you say.

    Smorgasbord

    4 BBQ Ribs
    2 Pc. Chicken
    5 Pc. Jumbo Shrimp
    2 Pc. Cajun Spices Perch

That’s just weird.  BUT, if you would like to make it weirder you may substitute rib tibs for the ribs or chicken wings for the chicken.

Let’s not forget you can also order a spicy hot sausage dinner, lasagna, fried okra, cheeseburgers or a steak salad.  OR if you’ve got a sweet tooth you can get peach cobbler, bananna pudding, sweet potato pie, or my favorite, a giant slice of cake (chocolate or carrot).

Don’t get me wrong, I love Happy’s Pizza and I’m sure one of these days I’ll get a taste for some Ocean Perch with a side of a meat lover’s pizza.  Until then, I’m just going to be a bit weirded out and stick to my calzones.

  • The BA-K-47

I am trying to figure out why someone would ever do this.  Where would this idea even come from?

I present to you, the BA-K-47.  An AK-47 made entirely of bacon.
