Epic Portions — …I see food and I eat it. — Page 135

Athletes + Twitter + Food = This Post

Randoms

With training camp beginning for NFL teams, I’ve noticed an abundance of player documenting their eating habits via Twitter.  This is great for me because I do the same exact thing.  For the purpose of attempting to post interesting things to keep you visiting Epic Portions, I present to you the re-posting of pictures from athletes’ Twitter accounts.  Settle down, I know it’s exciting.

First up…..

Chad Ochocinco(formerly Chad Johnson), wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, is a dedicated user of Twitter.  His promise to Tweet during games is being heavily looked into by the NFL.  The reason I speak of Mr. 85 is that his daily Tweet routine also includes the eating habits of himself and Bengal teammates, his love for McDonalds, and somehow cooking at Japanese restaurants.

Sidetrack Bar & Grill – Ypsilanti, MI

Food Reviews, Ypsilanti
sidetrack

Without question, one of my favorite places in the entire world is Sidetrack Bar & Grill.  There has been a bar at this location since the mid- to late-1800s, with early incarnations catering to railroad workers. Frenchies is right next door, and is used as overflow for the Sidetrack crowd or private functions.  The Sidetrack has high ceilings, a warm fireplace roaring in the winter months and an outside patio to enjoy in the summer time.  Not only does this place have some of the best local beer on tap, the greatest happy hour in the world (half off liquor & $3.00 22 oz drafts 11pm-1am), it also has some of the best food in the area.  Pretty much anything you order here is absolutely delicious.  While I usually stick with the gorgonzola tenderloin and fried clams on the side or their incredible sweet potato fries, the Sidetrack is known for the world famous burger.  When I say that their burger is world famous, I don’t mean it like Tio’s wet burrito.  This world famous menu item is actually known outside of Ypsilanti, and is easily one of the best burgers I have ever had.

Sidetrack was listed in GQ Magazine for grilling up one of the best burgers in the nation. Included in the magazine’s listing of “The 20 Hamburgers You Must Eat Before You Die,” and also mentioned on Oprah.  Who can argue with Oprah?   Sidetrack keeps its to-die-for burger status by using only fresh ground beef that’s delivered daily and by cooking each mouth-watering burger fresh to order.  You also get your burger the way you like it with options including 9 types of cheese (including goat cheese), grilled onions, portabella mushroom and grilled onions.  My favorite is the goat cheese and grilled onions.  Oh, did I mention this burger only runs you $5.50?

If you’re ever in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor, The Sidetrack Bar & Grill is a must stop.  I’ve never met a single person with a negative thing to say about this place.  It will be one of the things I miss most if I have ever had to move out of the area.  There’s nothing better than sitting outside on the patio drinking a tall Bell’s Oberon and enjoying a burger in the summer.  I’m getting a little emotional here.

Finally, a Sonic Within Driving Distance

sonic

Finally, I can actually visit a Sonic rather than see the stupid commercials on TV and cry about only having a McDonalds, Taco Bell and Burger King.  This may not be huge news, but it’s huge news.  God, that makes no sense.  I’m a little excited over here.   I feel like going to 7-11 and weezing the juice.

From HometownLife.com..

It was a grand slam (HAHA, get it???) for Westland, MI last Friday as the long-closed former Denny’s Restaurant on Cowan and Wayne Road was demolished.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to see it demolished for new development,” said Lori Fodale, economic development director. “It was amazing to see all the people watching and taking pictures. The community is excited to see the building go.”

A new Sonic restaurant will replace the former Denny’s which had been closed for a number of years and had become an eyesore on a busy corner near Westland Shopping Center.

John Matar of Westland Sonic is developing the new restaurant and also will be involved in the operation. He expected the site to be cleared of debris by as early as Saturday. The new restaurant should be ready to open in 60 days, he said.

This will be the second Sonic to be opened by Matar — the first is in Southgate — and he has plans for future restaurants in Monroe and Livonia. Matar has the rights to open Sonic locations in Wayne County.

Sonic features car hops for drive-in service, outdoor patio seating and a drive-through window but has no indoor seating. The drive-in is under a canopy and year-round will be staffed by servers on roller skates.

“We’re looking forward to the grand opening. We visited the store in Southgate in a blizzard. They keep the parking lot clear,” said Fodale.
